AMAN Publication: Violent Activism
The report authored by Shobna Sonpar focuses on the lives
and experiences of men in Jammu and Kashmir, who chose violent means
towards their political goals in order to discover who they are behind
the labels that type them.
The stereotypes evoked by labels such as ‘militant’ and terrorist’ mask their personhood and take away from a shared humanity.
Studying their lives from pre-militant days to their present lives as ex-militants, the report throws light on a number of questions that have engaged researchers of violent politics. The report applies a psychosocial lens for analysis of the subject and is based on in-depth interviews with ex-militants in Jammu and Kashmir.
